STRANGER THINGS | More of That Strange 80s Stuff

I just finished watching all the 8 episodes of Netflix's latest hit series STRANGER THINGS! Of course this show deserves a second season but first here's what I think about the first one. Stranger Things got a lot of awesome reviews everywhere and for good reasons too, but it is still incomparable to HBO's cinematic masterpiece Game of Thrones. But here are some of the good points that made it one of the most watched series of 2016: The story written by the Duffer Brothers pays homage to 80s most famous story-tellers like Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter and Stephen King. The over-all environment of the series takes you back to some of the masters' early works. Aside from the settings, the music also captured that 80s feel especially "Episode 2: The Weirdo on Maple Street" which features some of my favorite 80s music and the score was absolutely perfect. 5 SEC REVIEW | Now You See Me 2 Vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

So I just recently watched two, months-old sequel films here in Manila - Now You See Me 2 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadow. To give you a little background, I am a big fan of the first "Now You See Me" film which was shown in 2013 but I didn't like the 2014 Michael Bay produced reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." After watching the sequels, I guess the tide has changed - I am now impressed with TMNT Out of the Shadows and a little bit disappointed with Now You See Me 2. Most of the cast of the two films have reprise their roles in the sequels, they also have the same set of writers. And so I am assuming that the most critical changes were brought by their new directors. Now You See Me 1 - Louis Leterrier (hence the French environment) Now You See Me 2 - John M. 5 SEC REVIEW | GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE 2024

GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE It's everything you'd expect in a Ghostbusters movie and more, because the family is now bigger. The Spenglers took over the ghostbusting business together with Gary Grooverson (Paul Rudd), Phoebe's (Mckenna Grace) Professor from the last Ghostbusters movie and his new dad. The new film also brought back all the main cast of Afterlife plus and the remaining members of the original Ghostbusters from the 80s. And oh, big spoiler - Walter Peck (William Atherton) from Ghostbusters 1 is now the mayor of New York City. Anyway, humor and action are all in the right places. Fans of the 80s film will love how they've incorporated once again some of the elements that defined the original film like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Men , Slimer , the old firehouse , the ghost librarian, and even the possessed stone statues. 5 SEC REVIEW | WOODY WOODPECKER GOES TO CAMP

WOODY WOODPECKER GOES TO CAMP - 2024 Stars: Chloe Delos Santos, Mary Louise Parker, Josh Lawson, Savanna La Rain, Tom Kenny (Wally The Walrus), Kevin Michael Richardson (Buzz Buzzard) and Eric Bauza (Woody Woodpecker). Woody Woodpecker is just as loud and mischievous in this live-action full-length film as the 2D cartoon shorts that he originated from. The plot here is simple - he got kicked out of the protected forest that he calls home and was told to not come back until he learned to become a team player. So he enlisted himself to a summer camp filled with misfits "Camp Woo Hoo" who is in rivalry with another camp called "Camp Hoo Raa". The story gets a little bit interesting when the wilderness games start and the sinister Buzz Buzzard comes in to the picture. Anyway, this one's a family oriented film with some simple notes about teamwork, leadership and building self-confidence. 5 SEC REVIEW | INSIDIOUS: THE RED DOOR (2023)

INSIDIOUS: THE RED DOOR It's sort of a reunion, or an open-ended "conclusion" to the Insidious Universe, or part three of the Lambert Family ordeal trilogy. Whichever way you see it, this film is nostalgic, dramatic and has added a compelling storyline to something that we thought ended with Chapter 2. Let's brush up on our Insidious history. So there's James Wan's Chapter 1 which came out in 2010 and surprised the living with its eerie jump scare techniques, combining mind-bending lighting effects, heart pounding sound and scores, and unpredictable scary scenes that seems to torture viewers to no end all throughout the film. Basically, the story revolves around Dalton (Ty Simpkins) who's ability to travel through the astral plane consequently allowed his body to be a vessel for demons.
